Dieckmann, J. Robert, age 88 yrs. died June 12, 2007 in Cincinnati, OH. A resident of the Cuyahoga Falls and Fairlawn areas most of his adult life, Bob served as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve during World War II. After a brief association with Dow Chemical, Bob joined Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in 1951. He was a mechanical engineer specializing in machines to extrude tire tread and earned over 50 patents for his work. He retired from Firestone in 2003. His beloved wife, Elida Maceo Dieckmann, preceded him in death in 2001. Every year he planted a vegetable garden which prospered despite the bunny rabbits. He made fine bread, churning out seven loaves at a time using a century-old hand-cranked bread maker. Bob also loved tinkering around the house, especially while listening to opera. He is survived by his sister, Mary Young of Fullerton, CA. He leaves four daughters: Janna Dieckmann of Chapel Hill, NC, Mary Dieckmann Lipsky of Cincinnati, Peg Kirkpatrick of Alexandria, VA, Catherine Drake, of Houston and five grandchildren. The funeral is at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 19th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Akron, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Fund at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 West Market, Akron, OH 44313.
