The Blue Ash Presbyterian Church family mourns the untimely loss of Hennie Kriek. The entire family has been a vital part of the activities and mission of BAPC, always involved and supportive of the Church. As this is the second member BAPC has lost in the past eight days, we all join hands and embrace Heleen, Danae and Hendrick with God's love and compassion. May they continue to find strength within, and from, the congregation.

Helena, Hendrik and Danae:

I was so deeply saddened by the passing of your husband and father. Hennie was a treasured member of the BAPC congregation and a pleasure to know.

My son Matt and I understand all too well what you’re going through. His father died suddenly back in 1991 when Matt was just 13. My heart goes out to all of you at this very difficult time. Please do not hesitate to call on me if I can be of any help at all!

Your friend in Christ,

To the members of the Kriek family,

I only had the privilege of knowing Hendrik for the last 5 months as I was his manager at Valiant. I am deeply saddened by this loss. He was so warm, kind, supportive and funny to everyone in our organization. He spoke often of his loving feelings regarding his family.

Please know Hendrik's contributions to our company will always be felt. Also, know I will always remember and miss my friend.

I had the great pleasure of working with Hendrik and dining with him quite often over the last year at his second home, The Fox Hollow. We poked fun at one another and joked a great deal. We spoke often of our families and he always reminded me that nothing was more important then the ones we love. I will miss my friend.

Hennie was one of those people who would lighten up a room with his larger-than-life personality and childlike enthusiasm. I had the privilige to work with Hennie at 2 different companies and will miss his contagious laugh and positive attitude. My sincerest sympathy to Heleen, Hendrik and Danae.

Hendrik was so kind to me when I started working at Valiant in September. I will never forget meeting him for the first time, traveling together to headquarters in New York. He was the first person I met on my very first day, sharing an early plane ride together from Cincinnati. I was very nervous, but Hendrik made jokes to make me laugh and helped me with my luggage. He was so easy to talk to and I really enjoyed working with Hendrik. There are special people that come into our lives for a short time, make an impact, and leave us wishing for just one more day with that person. Hendrik was all of that to me. I am so grateful our lives crossed paths, though briefly, his memory will remain in my heart forever.

Hendrik and I collaborated often during his tenure at Valiant. His professionalism and work ethic were legendary around our office--deservedly so. But what I admired most about him was the way he carried himself. The Hendrik I came to know and like very much was a modest man, but he exuded a confidence that was strikingly powerful. If you spent any time at all with him you just got the sense that he knew who he was.

He was also a very funny human being, with a dry wit and an infectious laugh. We always had a couple of running gags going about each other’s idiosyncrasies or backgrounds--and I really appreciated his ability to keep things light when deadlines were bearing down on us.

Hennie, you will be greatly missed--and fondly remembered.

My sincerest condolences to the Kriek family.

Heleen,

As you know, Hendrik and I were friends for a long time -- we met at ICL in Johannesburg in the mid 70's. I'm not sure that you know that we 'bonded' instantly - we were friends from our very first conversation; it's inconceivable that we have had our last. I cherish those 30+ years of friendship. Hendrik was a wonderful human being, who will be sorely missed by everyone who was fortunate to get to know him, and thereby have their lives enriched by his thoughtful intellect, humor and warm humanity.

My sincere condolences go out to you, Hendrik and Danae.

Helena-
I could not believe it when I heard the news. For almost a year I would pick Hennie up on Monday morning at Laguardia Airport. The conversation would always be about the fun filled weekend he had with you Hendrick and Danai.(Church function, bastkeball game, cousins in from South Africa) Friday would not come fast enough for him. He would pull me out of the office an hour early knowing there was always a chance I could get him to the airport for an earlier flight. Another great weekend was only hours away. I have been keeping all of you in my thoughts during this very difficult time. Rest in peace Hennie. John B.

To the Kriek family,

My deepest sympathy to you.
Hendrik was a dear frind of mine at Valiant. We spent a lot of time together, weather it be here in Los Angeles, New York, or on the phone. Hendrik always made me laugh. I know he would be there for me if I needed help. One of my fondest memories of him was, when I was very ill and laid up in bed at the Fox Hollow from food poisoning - he was the only one that called me in the room, and asked if there was anything he could bring me. Well, before I could even hang the phone up - there he was at my door with a plate of cookies and a cup of tea with milk. Just how he knew I liked my tea! I always thought that was so nice of him to care as much as he did.
I will miss my friend and co-worker.
God Bless you Hendrik!

Here's the kind of person Hennie was: We live next door. A few months ago, on a Sunday afternoon, we and 80% of Cincinnati lost our electric service due to high winds. Hennie tried to find a generator to buy or rent Sunday evening and a good part of the day on Monday, to no avail. As I was sitting in front of my house Monday evening, he pulled in his driveway towing a construction-site-sized generator. He'd hung out at an equipment rental dealer until someone returned a generator they had rented. Do you know what the first thing he did was? He asked us if we wanted to run an extension cord over for our refrigerator--after he had spent the whole day hunting it down. His first thought was always helping others. Cheers, Hennie. We'll miss you. A lot.
